A Clinical Observation of Skin Disease in Old Patients

Abstract
The author had observed new outpatients who visited the Department of Dermatology, Inha Hospital from 1990 to 1994. During this period, 11799 new outpatients visited the clinic. Among these the number of patient who were over the age of 64 was 493(4.2%) Our clinical observation on this age group for skin disease are compared with the result of other surveys which had performed at 15 years ago in Korea The results are follows; 1. Among the 493 patients, 228(46.2%)patients were male and 265(53.8%)patients were female. There was no difference in sex(p<0.005) 2. The common disease were herpes zoster(20.7%); pruritus(15.4%); contact dermatitis(8.1%); tineapedis(6.1%); drug erution(5.9%); and seborrheic dermatitis(4.7%). Each disease did not have sexual difference(p<0.005) 3. Comparing with previous studies performed late 1970s in Korea, rate of geriatric patients in outpatients was increased, and herpes zoster and pruritus were increased but contact dermatitis, acute urticaria and fungal infection were decreased.
